Basta Lang! Roy Ama's One Man Show in Cebu

Image
Guest of Honors   Ambassador Jose Mari Cariño Mico Cotia Maria Ivy Ang   In the world of art, it is a given notion that anybody nurturing his creativity at an early age will have a better opportunity to succeed than somebody who started late. Thus, it is natural for the gifted individual to develop his artistry while still young. However, knowing how difficult it is to consider art as a profession, not all of those who have artistic talents end up as artists, but more often than not, many have opted to take up another course, if only to attain a more lucrative life. This story has a semblance at how Roy Ama made his entry into the artworld. Instead of nurturing his art, Roy has decided to takeup a course in Bachelor of Arts at the University of Santo Tomas . His love for music, however encouraged him to stop schooling for a while and joined  a group of young musicians performing in a foreign country. Returning from his foreign stint, he was hoping that he still can...

These select group of artists, now mostly in the academe , came from different groups and represent a wide range of stylistic tendencies that somehow reflect the diversity of contemporary art in Cebu. Except for the Cebuano Master Jose Kimsoy Yap , most of the artists selected then like Melver Mercado , Sio Montera ,  Felix Catarata , Marvin Natural , Joshua Cabrera , Palmy Pe-Tudtud , Gigi Ocampo and Radel Paredes were in their mid-career and active in the local art scene. Creative Convergence - A Cebu and Filarts Group Collaboration

Image
As the Philippines is an archipelago, it is very seldom that a group of Filipino artists coming from different regions and with different mindset have an opportunity to be together in one creative endeavor.  Their exposure to dissimilar environment and practicing their art in different direction contributes to the difficulty of uniting them in one exhibit. However, there are instances when artists with different perspectives will come together if only to showcase a variety of artistic expressions, thereby providing the public the opportunity to view, interact and perhaps appreciate the different creative outputs born out of their individuality.    Creative Convergence aims just like that: to attain creative unity, while opting to keep their diverse creative expressions.  It hopes to provide a platform, where they can exercise their freedom in practicing art that truly represents who they are, and what they want to be as painters. Above all, Creative...
