"Ultraque Unum" (Both Are One) by Jojo Sagayno The journey of "Ultraque Unum" spanned nearly two years, born from the serendipitous meeting of  Roy Ama  and Jojo Sagayno at Nami Art Gallery in Mandaluyong City, and later, at ArtPortalCebu in Consolacion, Cebu. Their in-depth conversations about abstract art sparked the idea for this unique back-to-back solo exhibition. For  Roy and Jojo, abstract art serves as a common ground, allowing them to transcend their individual styles and come together in a shared creative vision. Creating abstract art is a daunting task, akin to capturing the wind or grasping water – elusive and intangible. The ...

Basta Lang! Roy Ama's One Man Show in Cebu

Guest of Honors   Ambassador Jose Mari Cariño Mico Cotia Maria Ivy Ang   In the world of art, it is a given notion that anybody nurturing his creativity at an early age will have a better opportunity to succeed than somebody who started late. Thus, it is natural for the gifted individual to develop his artistry while still young. However, knowing how difficult it is to consider art as a profession, not all of those who have artistic talents end up as artists, but more often than not, many have opted to take up another course, if only to attain a more lucrative life. OGK!   Go and visit the Visayas Art Fair.   The Visayas Art Fair was a historical undertaking in 2021 with the banner, Connecting The Islands Through Art, initiated by the National Commission for Culture and Arts, together with the Cebu Design Week Inc., Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas , Sacred Heart School for Boys Batch 1985 Foundation , and the Cebu Furniture Industries Foundation to unite the artistry of the three regions (Regions 6, 7 & 8) in the Visayas.     Its aim was to present to the world the unique identity of the Visayan arts and culture. Cebuano Abstract Expressionism

Image
Abstract expressionism is the term applied to new forms of abstract art developed by American painters such as Jackson Pollock , Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning in the 1940s and 1950s. It is often characterised by gestural brush-strokes or mark-making, and the impression of spontaneity Within abstract expressionism were two broad groupings: the so-called action painters , who attacked their canvases with expressive brush strokes; and the colour field painters who filled their canvases with large areas of a single colour. Wenceslao “Tito” Cuevas (September 2, 1938 –March 19, 2012), a renowned third generation Cebuano artist, whose non-conformist attitude paved the way for Filipino modern art to emerge in the Queen City of the South . He is regarded as the Father of Cebuano Abstract Expressionism Cuevas exposed himself to art outside the Philippines. "This exposure paved way for his signature abstract expressionist style. Splatters of paint and bold brush strokes done...
