Distorted Realism- A Solo Exhibit by Leodito Bongo III

Image
Leodito Rosales Bongo III first solo exhibition, "Distorted Realism," refers to the artist's use of real-world distorted elements while maintaining a sense of realism. “Reflecting Memories Through Realism: Exploring the Fusion of Traditional Oil Painting Techniques with Contemporary Artistic Expression Using Distorted Images of Personal Memento Artifacts and Photographs." Memories are not fully specific, they are fragmented and altered by emotion, so the artist in this exhibition creates a visual representation of a memory through distorted reflections. The spectators will see the perspective of the artist and also feel the emotion and story of those personal memories. The artist has been practicing realism for years, and as a realist artist in a contemporary world, he was challenged to expand his artistic practice by using his knowledge of traditional painting and fusing it with a contemporary expression. In this exhibition, the paintings represent the artist...

Creative Convergence - A Cebu and Filarts Group Collaboration

Image
As the Philippines is an archipelago, it is very seldom that a group of Filipino artists coming from different regions and with different mindset have an opportunity to be together in one creative endeavor.  Their exposure to dissimilar environment and practicing their art in different direction contributes to the difficulty of uniting them in one exhibit. However, there are instances when artists with different perspectives will come together if only to showcase a variety of artistic expressions, thereby providing the public the opportunity to view, interact and perhaps appreciate the different creative outputs born out of their individuality.    Creative Convergence aims just like that: to attain creative unity, while opting to keep their diverse creative expressions.  It hopes to provide a platform, where they can exercise their freedom in practicing art that truly represents who they are, and what they want to be as painters. Above all, Creative...

Cebuano Hyperrealist Painters

Image
For several years I was deep into photography. I delved into all sorts- landscape, portrait, night, macro but my favorite kind was travel photography.  So I wasn’t really into realist paintings thinking that photography was superior in this regard.  My types of paintings were Impressionism and Cubism- if something looks realistic, it doesn't tickle my fancy. Hyperrealism is a genre of painting and sculpture resembling a high-resolution photograph and is  considered an advancement of photorealism by the methods used to create the resulting paintings or sculptures. It takes technical art to the highest level. The term is primarily applied to an independent art movement and art style in the United States and Europe that has developed since the early 1970s. Carole Feuerman is considered the forerunner...
