Cebuano Artists Painting Collection- Wenceslao Cuevas

Wenceslao "Tito" Cuevas (Sep 2, 1938 –Mar 19, 2012)  is considered as the father of Cebuano abstract expressionism .  In the 70's, after visiting the Museum of Modern Art in New York , he was inspired by the works of Franz Kline and Mark Rothko .  He started doing his style of abstract expressionism and prodded his Cebuano contemporaries to cut back painting in the realist - impressionist manner and create something different. This was one of the reasons why Celso Pepito was inspired to try cubism. He also dabbled on abstract expressionism as a Fine Arts student and even made it his thesis in UP Cebu .  Pepito considers Cuevas  as the Father of Modern Cebuano Art - by modern he meant non- traditional painting.   I've collecting stamps of Philippine Presidents since I was a young boy. My favorite then was the stamp of former President Ferdinand Edralin Marcos . Another favorite to collect was President Cory Aquino . Never would have I imagined that I will someday be collecting his son, our current President - Ferdinand "Bongbong" Romualdez Marcos . Now, he is one of my fave to collect! The stamp above was given to me my wife's closest friend since childhood- Lindy R.G. Thank you Linds! Ferdinand " Bongbong " Romualdez Marcos Jr., commonly referred to by the initials PBBM or BBM , is a Filipino politician who is the 17th and current president of the Philippines . Marcos is also the secretary of agriculture , holding the post in concurrent capacity. He previously served as a senator from 2010 to 2016.  He is the second child and only son of 10th president Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and former first lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos .

President Carlos P. Garcia on Stamps

Carlos P. Garcia was born in Talibon, Bohol on November 4, 1896, to Policronio Garcia and Ambrosia Polistico. He studied in Cebu Provincial High School and Silliman University then Philippine Law School and graduated in 1923. Garcia was famous for his poetry in Bohol where he earned the nickname Prince of Visayan Poets.   Garcia became a school teacher then a representative in the Philippine Congress in 1925. He was elected governor of Bohol in 1931 and re-elected 1940. Garcia became a senator in 1941. He was re-elected in 1945 and again in 1953. During the Japanese occupation , Garcia was an active member of the resistance. After the war, he was the one who missioned the Philippine Rehabilitation at War Damage claims in 1945 in the United States.   Garcia was elected as vice-president in 1953 and was appointed Secretary of Foreign Affairs under President Ramon Magsaysay .
