Tops Artfest 2024- A Celebration of Art

The TOPS ARTFEST 2024: Why The Cebu Community Should Not Miss It?  By Celso Duazo Pepito I was happy to graduate in Fine Arts in 1981 at the University of the Philippines Cebu . But for the next two to three decades of  my art practice, my journey as member of creative community were full of difficulties and challenges. In the 80's and 90's we had very limited platforms for exhibition, encouraging us to organize our exhibits in hotels , restaurants , malls , hospitals , etc . Added to our problems is the limited art collectors in Cebu during that time. Attendees of exhibitions, more often than not were same people who have the heart for collecting artworks. And there were instances when these collectors will shy away from art exhibitions, with valid reasons that they do not have enough walls to hang their collections. With this problem in mind, few artists have opted to look for another job, if only to survive. There were few passionate painters, however, that opted to nurture...

Image
FilArts  presents Beyond Borders- Art Speaks the Same Language on July 12 6pm at the ELKS Club, 7th Floor, Corinthian Plaza, Paseo de Roxas, Makati City One of the featured artist is Lloyd B. Lusica . He was born in Guindulman, an old town in the eastern part of Bohol in the Philippines. He attended the University of Bohol College of Architecture and Fine Arts where he majored in Advertising. Dreaming big and aiming high to have a better life, Lloyd moved to Manila in 2012 to fulfill his dream of etching a name in painting and started participating in a number of group art shows. As an abstract figurative painter, Lloyd's paintings are meant to be read and analyzed. He doesn't want the audience to merely admire his art works because of its beauty; rather, he wants the audience to connect with the image that they see, moved by it and explore the boundless possibilities of its interpretation. A Lloyd Lusica trademark is his use of grids in most of his paintings. Those interlock...

Creative Convergence - A Cebu and Filarts Group Collaboration

Image
As the Philippines is an archipelago, it is very seldom that a group of Filipino artists coming from different regions and with different mindset have an opportunity to be together in one creative endeavor.  Their exposure to dissimilar environment and practicing their art in different direction contributes to the difficulty of uniting them in one exhibit. However, there are instances when artists with different perspectives will come together if only to showcase a variety of artistic expressions, thereby providing the public the opportunity to view, interact and perhaps appreciate the different creative outputs born out of their individuality.    Creative Convergence aims just like that: to attain creative unity, while opting to keep their diverse creative expressions.  It hopes to provide a platform, where they can exercise their freedom in practicing art that truly represents who they are, and what they want to be as painters. Above all, Creative...

Celso Pepito's Sketches in Borobudur, Indonesia 2023

Image
FRUITS OF MY BOROBUDUR, INDONESIA JOURNEY. The privileged to be invited to join the EXPRESSION exhibit at Limanjawi Art House in Borobudur, Indonesia was one great opportunity for me to learn and appreciate the arts and culture of the Indonesian people. But being in Borobudur for a week has given me more reasons to be steadfast in my creative journey as art in this area is more alive, most artists has their own studio , embracing the contemporary mode of expression as they  actively create their art. The warmthness and great hospitality of our Indonesian counterparts have even made our stay more precious and enriching. But what really made this trip more fruitful was transforming my time into moments of productivity through SKETCHING . From Cebu , to Manila , to Kuala Lumpur , to Yogjakarta to Borobudur and back, sketching has always been a part of my passion to document this trip. I was happy that our layovers in KLIA2 has given me more time to create. It was indeed another...
