ArtPortalCebu Consolacion will open a new branch at Atuà Midtown on December 8, 2024,  ArtPortalCebu Atuà Midtown branch will have its initial exhibit entitled: ATUANG KULTURA The exhibit is a manifestation of the richness of our arts and culture as Filipinos in general, and as Cebuanos in particular.     My maternal grandparents were from Mainit , Alipao, Alegria, Surigao del Norte .  In the 1930’s, the families of Odtojan , Baluran , Labaso , Senturias , Rubilla and Seroy emerged simultaneously and inhabited the place. Because they were bound by faith and the common vision for a better tomorrow, these families started to cultivate the area of Candiis that had a total land area of not more than 300 hectares.  The first Teniente del Barrio was Alvaro Odtojan Senturias Sr.  who served until the end of the World War II. One of the succeeding Teniente del Barrio was my late aunt Pacensia "Pacing" Odtojan Beniga (Lesoy). Before the war , my grandfather Eugenio Anino Beniga (son of Pantaleon Beniga), a surveyor from Sevilla, Bohol went to Surigao , met and married a pious local beauty, Felina Caerlang Odtojan . Pedro D. Villadolid , Forest, 1976, Oil on masonite 36" x 60", Avanzado family collection At 3x5 feet, this 1976 painting by little known painter from Suba,   Bantayan Island , Cebu , Pedro Villadolid  is the biggest known work of the artist to date.  I grew up looking at this painting everyday. This commissioned landscape art piece adorned our main living room,  another beautiful seascape version hung in my parents bedroom, a third piece - a still life - could be found in our dining room, and a fourth - a flower in a vase in front of the bar. Not much is known about this Cebuano painter who had the exceptional God-given talent for the arts but only started painting later in life.  His son Jose "Pepe" Villadolid , also a notable painter in Cebu recalls, "he didn't start painting seriously until my younger brother Balsicas got sick".  Balsicas was the most talented among the Villadolid painters that included my uncle Diosdado "Diovil" , my f...

    Born on April 28, 2002, he is one of the youngest emerging artists making waves both locally and internationally is a 20 year old native of Danao City, who is currently living in Carmen , Cebu . His name is Leodito Rosales Bongo III.   Currently a Fine Arts student of the University of the Philippines Cebu, he was also a  personal student of Master Cubist Celso Duazo Pepito since 2020. He  garnered several local and international awards for his art and was the champion of the 7th World Youth Art Festival 2020 in South Korea . He started creating art when he was in grade 3 but did not take it seriously until he was 16.    His journey in pursuing his passion for creating art was not easy - with initial opposition from his parents.  He started losing hope because no one believed in him. We are encouraging fellow art enthusiasts and collectors to see the exhibit which will showcase the works of famous artists like Master Cubist Celso Pepito , Portrait Master Jun Impas , Master of Distortion Adeste Deguilmo and many more.  Heading the guests of honor is fellow art enthusiast, heritage preservation advocate and supporter, Hon. Raymond Alvin Garcia and wife Kate Roska Garcia . CAI is known for its diverse memberships, thus, the group promotes the individual style of its members as it totally gives freedom to pursue each of their artistic aspirations. CAI is on its third decade of promoting art awareness in Cebu Community and help develop its members into potential pride of Cebu's art and culture.    

Figurative Art in Cebu owes its sense of realism and classical ardor to the late Martino Abellana and those he mentored, particularly Romulo "Molong" Galicano . Since the eighties, Galicano has taught and encourage a band of Cebuano artists to excel in the academic techniques of figurative painting, and who has since emerged as the leading edge of a new generation of figure painters.
