#ARKISKETCHERS CEBU

A group of Cebu-based architects has been going around Cebu not to check construction sites but to sketch and paint. Whether it’s watercolor or pen and ink, Arkisketchers Cebu are busy filling their sketch pads with drawings and paintings of heritage buildings, rural scenes, as well as the growing urban landscape. Through their work, the group also tries to capture everyday scenes and various walks of life. 

There is so much about Cebu to show, and by sketching and painting, they are able to tell a story of a particular moment one art work at a time. It’s one of the best ways to showcase Cebu, both architecturally and artistically.


Fred Galan is an octogenarian Cebuano master artist, a cancer survivor who has weathered serious health battles over the course of his decades-long career.
These major health challenges left him physically scarred and damaged his hearing, but they profoundly deepened his profound spiritual faith. Following his health recoveries, his worldview shifted completely, inspiring him to treat his visual talents as a direct gift from God. As a form of gratitude, he famously incorporates subtle spiritual symbols and subliminal biblical scriptures into his masterful watercolor and acrylic paintings.
Despite his past health battles, he continues to be highly active in the local art community, regularly exhibiting award-winning works alongside his family at major events like the annual Tubô Cebu Art Fair.

Celso Pepito's Mangostain Paintings at Mindanao Art Fair

Parayeg, 11"x 8", Mangosteen stains/acrylic, 2024                            Celso Pepito ’s use of mangosteen stain as an artistic medium is a rare and distinctive artwork that originated from his "Mangosteen Discovery," which occurred during his participation in the Mindanao Art Fair at SM Lanang in Davao City . Inspired by Davao's abundance of local fruits , the celebrated Cebuano visual artist experimented with the deep, rich muddy pigments left behind by the fruit's rind. He subsequently integrated these natural organic stains into his paintings as a creative homage to the region . The Kudyapi- The Philippine Two-Stringed Lute

The kutiyapi or kudyapi, is a Philippine two-stringed, fretted boat-lute. It is the only stringed instrument among the Maguindanao people, and one of several among other groups such as the Maranao and Manobo . It is four to six feet long with nine frets made of hardened beeswax . The instrument is carved out of solid soft wood such as from the jackfruit tree.   Common to all kutiyapi instruments, a constant drone is played with one string while the other, an octave above the drone, plays the melody with a kebit or rattan pluck (commonly made from plastic nowadays).
