Reflection- A Solo Art Exhibit by Marlowe Villagonzalo

Image
At a younger age while he was still in Surigao, Marlowe has always wanted to become an artist. Deep in his heart he believed the value of his artistry as it manifested even when he was still five years of age. His early fascination with art has motivated him to draw trucks, ships and even bikes.  He recalled that he was one of those many children who loved to draw the images of famous Filipino actors and actresses, especially that of Fernando Poe, Jr. In third year high school, he was introduced to the art of paper cuts which added to his creative skills.  To positively nurture his creativity, he enrolled as one of the many students in an Architectural Drafting class where he gained additional knowledge that positively contributed to his aspiration of becoming a painter. Home is of itself an image of tranquility and of simplicity many which to preserve. For some, they have never left its safe confines. For others, it is a temporary stay and one they will eventually depart from. For the artist, it is a space and time, they long to return to. In the artists pursuit of a new medium for creative exploration and in her personal narrative of rediscovering artistic passion, she combines watercolor, a medium with significant importance, rooted in her childhood, and digital animation, her current primary art practice, to rekindle a connection to her art that has been diminished by commercial pressures and loss of artistic autonomy, that of which is prevalent in the modern day culture of working artists.  The resulting body of work explores the contrast between the stilln...

Leodito Rosales Bongo III first solo exhibition, "Distorted Realism," refers to the artist's use of real-world distorted elements while maintaining a sense of realism. “Reflecting Memories Through Realism: Exploring the Fusion of Traditional Oil Painting Techniques with Contemporary Artistic Expression Using Distorted Images of Personal Memento Artifacts and Photographs." The artist has been practicing realism for years, and as a realist artist in a contemporary world, he was challenged to expand his artistic practice by using his knowledge of traditional painting and fusing it with a contemporary expression.
