Takdol- A Solo Art Exhibit

TAKD🌕L (High Moon)—a powerful and unprecedented fusion of photography, philately, numismatics, fine art, and advocacy by multi-disciplinary artist and regenerative farmer Bernard Restificar.

This solo exhibit features 55 mixed-media works, each telling stories of time, memory, and Filipino identity through century-old USPI coins and stamps, captured moments, and textured artistry on white cotton canvas.


What makes TAKD🌕L even more luminous is the collaboration with three brilliant Cebuano artists:

 •Celso Pepito, with his masterful Cubist interpretations (15 works);

 •Lucilo Sagayno, bringing Abstract Impressionist soul (19 works); and,

 •Roland Mortejo, blending eclectic modern vision with historical nuance (6 works).

The kutiyapi or kudyapi, is a Philippine two-stringed, fretted boat-lute. It is the only stringed instrument among the Maguindanao people, and one of several among other groups such as the Maranao and Manobo . It is four to six feet long with nine frets made of hardened beeswax . The instrument is carved out of solid soft wood such as from the jackfruit tree.   Common to all kutiyapi instruments, a constant drone is played with one string while the other, an octave above the drone, plays the melody with a kebit or rattan pluck (commonly made from plastic nowadays). Antipolo Pilgrimage is a month-long celebration that brings devotees and pilgrims to venerate the " Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage " which is enshrined in Antipolo Church in Antipolo City . This is annually celebrated every month of May.   It is during the month of May when Filipino devotees to the Blessed Virgin Mary from different parts of the country throng on the hills of Antipolo to make a pilgrimage at the shrine of Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buenviaje (Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage).   The folk song “ Tayo na sa Antipolo ” vividly captures the festive air of this season in this rural town some decades ago. "Glimpses of Old Cebu: Images of the Colonial Era" is a 276-page coffee table book of nearly 600 of the best photographs, postcards , stereoviews and lantern glass slides of Cebu and its many towns taken between 1870-1945. More than just a mere showcasing of rare, never-before-seen images, the book also provides a treasure trove of information accompanying nearly every picture. The author, Lucy Urgello Miller has been collecting vintage Philippine postcards and photographs for over 20 years, the thrust of her collection being Cebu . She acquired 90% of her Cebu collection in the United States where she is living with her husband Richard "Rick" Miller. Most of the collection was bought at antique postcards shows. Gabriel Abellana comes from a family of artists. His father Dr. Ramon Alcoseba Abellana , is a sculptor, musician and a dentist. His uncle, Martino Abellana , is considered as one of the most influential artist in Cebu . He is a graduate of Fine Arts at the University of the Phillipines Cebu College .    As a lover of nature, Abellana is a plein air landscape artist and makes nature the subject of his art. He stated that nature is God's creation and painting it makes you closer to God; but never ceases to artistically evolve by experimenting in abstraction using nature as inspiration. He mounted several group exhibits locally and internationally.
